Six months after the event we were able to celebrate Lisa's 50th birthday. We had pre-drinks at mine where I commenced my hobby as a mixologist - lychee martinis and margaritas were on the menu and I was very pleased with the result! We had dinner at Sake which was my first restaurant trip since we've been let out of lockdown. Kara and I foolishly forgot to bring a mask and were rather concerned about how we would get home but luckily Matt had passed his driving test during the week and was very happy to come and pick up Kara and her tipsy friends!
Tom and his mates headed to Tia's house for a Halloween party on Saturday night. My favourite dress up was Sam with baby Carlos from The Hangover - very creative!
On Sunday afternoon we finally got to do the special Aboriginal smoking ceremony at Barney's bench. It was a very special ceremony with Les, a local aboriginal elder, creating a fire into which he put a seed pod that he'd found near the bench earlier in the week. After cleansing us all with the smoke we buried the seed pod and the smoking embers in the ground with all of us contributing to filling the hole Les had dug with dirt. It was an incredibly simple and moving ceremony which cemented Barney's bench as a place that belongs to us all - I can't do it justice with words.
