Every Friday afternoon during summer Jules does the twilight race out of Manly Yacht Club on our boat Okavango Delta. He's built up a regular crew and they generally do pretty well. It is the perfect way to end the busy working week (and a good excuse to leave the office early on a Friday afternoon!). This week the kids and I went down to Manly for a play on the beach and to watch the start of the twilight. Afterwards the kids and I went to the "Global marketplace" that Manly council puts on once a month with various food stalls from around the world and live music. We bumped into Leanne, John and Charlie and the kids all had bratwurst followed by nutella crepes - yum!
Friday was Alayne's birthday and we had planned a special lunch at my house complete with present giving. We were all assembled and beginning to think about preparing lunch when Charlie started screaming. We found him half way up the stairs with his hand covering his chin and drops of blood falling on the carpet - he had fallen down the concrete steps and split open his chin. Alayne went straight into doctor mode and after she had done an initial check of Charlie's chin and settled him and Leanne on the sofa we raced up to Manly hospital to get antiseptic, dressings and skin glue. Alayne did an amazing job glueing up Charlie's chin (the wound was really very deep) and we saved Leanne hours of waiting in A&E but it meant that Angie had to rush off to work before we were able to have lunch and give Alayne her present. She very kindly however left us with the beautiful brownies she had made as Alayne's birthday cake and we tucked into them with gusto.
The weather took a turn for the good this weekend and on Saturday morning we headed down to Manly for breakfast along the beach front with Derek and Paula who were up from Adelaide for a wedding. The kids played on the beach and swam whilst we had a leisurely breakfast and caught up on each others news. In the afternoon Tess went for a sleepover at Olivia's house. You may remember me writing of an unsuccessful sleepover at her friend Yin-Yin's house about 6 months ago where Tess was returned to our house at 10.30pm. Tess was very apprehensive about staying at Olivia's to the point where she almost didn't go but Emma was brilliant and gently but firmly removed her from our house. Not surprisingly Tess had a fantastic time and has decided she would like to do another one again soon!
Sunday was a scorcher so we headed down to Clontarf for a swim and snorkel and then spent the afternoon at home lazing by the pool.
Tess and I had a funny conversation during the week:
Me: Lisa just phoned and she's on ice-block duty today so you must take some money to school with you.
Tess: I've already got $1 in my pocket.
Me: You don't have to use your pocket money to buy ice blocks, I'm happy to give you money for that.
Tess: Don't worry, I took the money out of your purse.
I thought it wasn't until the teenage years that they started helping themselves to money from our wallets!!
