Tom the Hero and Tess the Superstar
It has been suggested that Tom may need to be bubble-wrapped to keep him from harm. He suffered another injury this weekend - this time an impressive scar just beneath his eye on the opposite side to his stitches scar. He was having a sword fight with Sequoia, a girl friend of his from school, and unfortunately her stick wielding skills were better than his. You watch - I'll have him enrolled in fencing classes before long.
The reason Tom is a hero is that if he hadn't broken his arm we would right now be in Fiji in the middle of a cyclone with the risk of being stranded as the airport is under water and almost all flights have been cancelled.
I have had an amazing birthday long weekend. It started with Saturday night dinner out with Andrew and Kate, Sunday night dinner with the Wakes-Millers and Monday night dinner with Hugh Grant. OK I'm stretching the dinner bit there but he was in the same restaurant as us (Bavarian Beer Cafe at Manly Wharf) and Jules got the following charming photo of him and Tess. Jules introduced Tess and Hugh held out his hand and said "Shake my paw". He was utterly charming and absolutely like every role he's ever played in every movie he's ever made.
We wanted to get Hugh to sign Tom's cast but Tom refused - he won't let us write on it so there was no way he was going to let a strange man write on it regardless of how famous he might be. Speaking of Tom's cast we go back to the surgeon tomorrow and it is not before time as the cast has split in 2 and is applying pressure to the broken bit of Tom's arm which I think highlights how careful Tom has been with his broken arm - I am forever receiving reports from other mums of him being sighted up trees, on his skateboard, jumping off rocks etc etc.
Back to my birthday.................I've received loads of wonderful cards and gifts and have felt very spoilt and cherished so thank you to everyone - turning 40 isn't so bad after all!
