Lack of sleep

Tom recently asked to change swimming squads because none of his friends attend his current swimming school and he feels you should swim with your friends to make it more fun because ultimately going up and down a swimming pool for 2 hours is not particularly riveting.  We could see his argument and immediately set about changing him to the same school as his friends.  The only, quite major, downside is that at his level the squads run from 5 to 7am which means waking up at 4.40am!!  Tom had his first 2 sessions this week and loved it - he was very diligent about putting himself to bed earlier than usual and jumped out of bed when I woke him up - so I guess this is the new regime.

To give you an idea of what such an early wake up does for me, I took Ted for a walk up to Tania Park and at the end of the walk tried to unlock my car by pressing the remote.  It didn't work and I was cursing to myself that the battery must have run out.  I was a little cross that the car hadn't given me any warning (the same thing happened with the Golf the other week and the car helpfully kept warning me to change the battery) so I worked out how to extract the physical key from the remote and prized off the key cover on the passenger side of the car in order to insert the key and manually open the car.  I was quite confused when even this didn't work and was wondering what I would do if I was stuck in the middle of nowhere.  A lovely lady came up to me and asked what was the problem, I explained how the battery had run out in the remote and I was trying to open the car door but surprisingly it wasn't working.  She very sweetly said "Do you think that might be because this is my car?"  I looked around me and there in front of the car I was trying to break into was my car - I was absolutely mortified!

Here's a rare picture of Tess and Tom enjoying each other's company!
